Round 15: One Hook Doesn’t Make a Left

Today I worked with my non-dominant hand. So I decided to show you what my pirate hands would look like.

Round 14: Norse Pirate “Hat”

Internet, today we (or at least I) acknowledge an older order of pirate. The Vikings. They terrorized people much earlier than the pirates that I typically picture. What’s more, they managed to strike fear into the hearts of people much farther inland. Vikings would follow rivers as far as their ships would take them.

So without further ado, please make the  acquaintance of George the Viking.

"I'll hug him and squeeze him and call him George."

Round 13: Water, Water Everywhere

Dearest Internet,

I honestly hope that you never get stuck out in today’s project. Even though it is a depiction of only water made with mere marker and colored pencil, such situations would make life a little bit more difficult to continue.

Life-Complicating Maelstrom

Best Wishes,

The Yarn Pirate

Round 12: Staple That Treasure!

Today I will have my revenge, Internet. A long time ago in a city more than a few fathoms away a stapler bit my thumb. Well today it’s my turn to bite my thumb at the stapler and do what good pirates do. Enslave that stapler for material gain! So without further ado, here’s what the stapler made to protect my loot.

Round 11: It’s an Ephemeral Life

Today’s food project is something ephemeral i.e. something that does not last long. I like butter and had some in ready supply. So, let’s see if you can figure out what today’s food treasure is?

Round 8: A Wire Pirate’s Best Friend

A good pirate would not be caught dead showing up to a pistol fight with just a rigging knife or a cutlass. Therefore I’ve constructed a pistol for my wire pirate friend (after all, who doesn’t have a wire pirate friend these days?).

Who Brings a Cutlass to a Pistol Fight?

Round 7: Stencil the Deck!

First off, I would just like to say that cutting a cardboard box with a dull exacto knife is not a fool’s errand, but it’s close. The project for today is a stencil based on The Mariner’s Revenge Song by The Decemberists.

WARNING! There is some violence involved in the song and in my stencil. Mainly because people tend to use violence to get revenge.

That being said, below are the pictures of my stencil and the shiny new picture on the cover of my sketch book. Read the rest of this entry »

Round 6: The Dread Ship McGonagall Rides Again

Internet, I would like to introduce you to the dread ship McGonagall.

The Dread Ship McGonagall

I served with her crew for a year, but fate did not smile kindly upon our vessel. She wandered down to Davy Jones’ locker. Today I took a walk with my hubby and stopped to bring the good ol’ ship back for one last sail upon frosty waters. She looked a bit rickety from a distance…

The First Sighting

But, upon further inspection she looked about as watertight as we had left her.

The Ghost Ship McGonagall

And so, after I paid my respects we left the ship to sail on until some other poor soul finds it… or the snow melts.
